Hornet Larva

 

.A Sandhills Hornet stinger is not barbed
like a Honey Bee therefore, each individual can sting multiple times.

 

They make an oval paper nest. This one was found in a woodshed.
 

   

The interior of the nest has several hanging
galleries of cells.

 

Here freshly laid eggs can be seen in some of the cells, others contain larva, and some of the cells have been sealed shut while the larva is metamorphosing into adult hornets.          Enlarge
