This website is dedicated to the
communities that reside within the
Boyne River watershed and to the
many visitors that come here for
recreation. We hope that
everyone will find it to be
informative and educational.
It will help us to understand how
the natural environment enriches the
quality of life for everyone that
passes this way. Each one of
us plays a role in the conservation
of these values.
Please visit
the site often. We will be
adding new material and up-dating on
a regular basis. |

Significant Issues

Charlevoix County
now has a prescription
drug disposal program
The citizens of
Charlevoix County can
now call the Sheriff's
Office at
231-547-4461 to make an
appointment to dispose
of obsolete prescription
drugs. Manny of
the drugs are dangerous
and in the wrong hands
could lead to substance
abuse. The
drugs should not be
flushed down the toilet!
The Waste
Water Treatment Plant is
unable to remove them
from the effluent so
drugs that are flushed
down the toilet pass
right through into Lake
Charlevoix. We want to
thank Liaison Officer,
William Schneider, and
Detective, Charles Vondra
for their efforts to
improve both public
safety and the
environment. |

| |
The Waste
Disposal Injection Well
at Alba is opposed
by both Antrim and
Charlevoix Counties and
by many environmental
groups and individuals
across Northwestern
Michigan. The
Friends of the Boyne
River support the
Friends of the Jordan
River in this effort.
